The USA will send a team packed with NBA stars to the Olympic Games in Paris. Eleven of twelve players are said to be confirmed
According to media reports, the USA will challenge world champions Germany at the Games in Paris with a star-studded squad. ESPN and The Athletic wrote on Monday that head coach Steve Kerr (Golden State Warriors) and manager Grant Hill from the US Basketball Association had decided on eleven out of twelve players.
The US squad for the Summer Games includes NBA superstars LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns) and Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) – four players who have all won an MVP award in their careers in the NBA.
Durant gets his fourth gold medal?
Durant has already won three Olympic gold medals, James was part of the winning team in 2008 and 2012. Curry has never competed at the Olympics. The twelfth roster spot will reportedly remain open until a training camp in Las Vegas in July. Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers) are the only players who were also in the squad at last year’s World Championships, when the USA lost in the semi-finals to the German team featuring NBA pros Dennis Schröder, Daniel Theis, Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner.
The following players are part of the US squad according to media reports: LeBron James, Antony Davis (both Los Angeles Lakers), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Kevin Durant, Devin Booker (both Phoenix Suns), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday (both Boston Celtics) Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat) and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers).
The USA will face Serbia, South Sudan and a qualifier in Group C. The German team will face Japan, France and another qualifier in Group B. The German women will face Belgium, Japan and the USA in the preliminary round.
