Fortnite: FNCS duo title goes to Wales

The finals of the third chapter of the second season of the Fortnite Champions Series took place at the weekend. While the best German-speaking team finished in seventh place, the lion’s share of the $1.3 million in prize money went to Wales.

The Fortnite event, in which the new no-build mode was not yet an issue, ran for the entire month of May. After several qualifiers and two semi-finals, the much-anticipated finals took place at the weekend, which threatened to be overshadowed in advance by a racism scandal.

In the duo competition, in which two players each compete as a team, the lavish prize money totalling over 1.3 million dollars was decided by twelve classic Battle Royale games. There were two ways to be crowned the overall winner within these matches: as the team with the most points after all the matches had been played or through a “Match Point”, which required three Battle Royale victories (Victory Royales) and 475 total points, which are calculated from eliminations and placings.

LootBoy and TUNDRA cheer, Waves double in top ten

In the end, ‘Lootboy aqua’ from LootBoy Esports and Harry ‘Tundra Veno’ Pearson from TUNDRA Fortnite earned the victory. Officially competing under the Welsh flag, former World Champion ‘Lootboy aqua’ from Austria and his partner secured three Victory Royales and an impressive 362 points – and €300,000 in victory bonuses.

Decisive in the close fight for the overall victory were the last three matches, in which the eventual winners entered as the second-placed duo. The two Team Falcons players ‘TaySon 7’ and ‘oogway’ were not able to save the six-point lead with two Victory Royales less at that point.

The best team from the German-speaking region was Wave Esports from Austria, whose duo ‘WAVE VICO’ and ‘WAVE YikesJxn’ played their way to seventh place. With ‘WAVE Juu’, another player from the organisation even finished in sixth place and was able to enjoy 80,000 euros in prize money with fellow Austrian MOUZ player Klaus ‘MOUZ stompy’ Konstanzer. Like the winners, however, the two sixth-placed players had started the tournament as Welsh Dragons.
