Sebastien Buemi, who has been part of the Formula E driver line-up since the inception of the racing series, is switching teams for the first time: new start at Envision with high goals
The upcoming 2023 Formula E season will be the first for Sebastien Buemi not to compete for the DAMS team, which has changed names on and off since the electric racing series was founded
From e.dams to Renault-e.dams to Nissan-e.dams, Buemi has been on board with DAMS from the very first season (2014/15) and has won 13 races in that period. This makes the Swiss driver, together with Lucas di Grassi, the most successful Formula E driver in terms of race wins. He won the title in the 2015/16 season.
However, Buemi’s last Formula E victory to date (New York 2019) was three years ago, which is why he has now decided to change teams for the first time in his career in the electric racing series.
Beginning with the 2023 season, Buemi will compete for Envision. He has signed a multi-year contract with the former Virgin team and will be Nick Cassidy’s new teammate. Buemi succeeds Robin Frijns, who docks with the Abt team for 2023.
“Formula E is going through an interesting time right now,” Buemi addresses the switch from Gen2 to Gen3 cars, saying, “I can’t wait to compete for Envision Racing in the new season. I have had a lot of respect for this team ever since. I think they’ve done a great job over the years and brought in the best results possible.”
Envision (formerly Virgin) has yet to win a title. Buemi wouldn’t mind changing that in the future. “The Gen3 era is an immensely important one and presents a new challenge because the cars are faster, lighter and more powerful. My goal is to fight at the front. I’m looking forward to the first test drives to get ready for the season opener in Mexico City,” said the Swiss.
