Formula 1 weather 2024: The forecast for the race in Zandvoort

The current weather forecast for the 15th race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands

There are crucial questions on every Formula 1 2024 race weekend: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Do we need intermediates or even rain tires? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tires will suffice? In short: What do the drivers around Nico Hülkenberg, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?

In order to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the start of the tests or race weekends. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days of each weekend.

The result is the most accurate weather forecast possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2024 Formula 1 season. However, all information is subject to change, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there without warning.

The next time Formula 1 takes to the track in Zandvoort will be from August 23 to 25 for the Dutch Grand Prix, the 15th race of the year.

The current weather forecast for the race weekend in Zandvoort:

After the summer break, Formula 1 can expect a race weekend in Zandvoort with almost autumnal conditions in places. Rain is possible on all three days, with gale-force winds blowing in places and temperatures not reaching summer levels. The forecast in detail.

Friday (August 23) will start off very cloudy. There will be little sunshine in the morning, but in the afternoon it may occasionally prevail over the clouds, which will, however, retain the upper hand. It will be a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius.

With a 62 percent chance of precipitation, showers are to be expected during the course of the day. However, should these hit the race track, which cannot be predicted with certainty in advance, no large amounts of rain are to be expected.

The biggest weather factor on Friday, however, is the stormy wind. On average, it will reach speeds of up to 60 km/h, with heavy gusts of up to 90 km/h at its peak. The wind blows from a south-westerly direction and is likely to pose a major challenge for the drivers as a tailwind, especially in the fast turn 7 (Scheivlak).

Saturday (August 24) will be a gray day. The sky will already be very cloudy in the morning and, unlike Friday, the sun will hardly show itself during the course of the day. It will be slightly cooler with a maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.

There is an 84 percent chance of precipitation. Rain is to be expected throughout the day, with isolated thunderstorms also possible. However, the heaviest rain is not expected until the evening and thus after the end of qualifying.

The wind is still blowing from a south-westerly direction, but has eased somewhat compared to Friday. At an average of 35 km/h, with gusts of up to 60 km/h, it is still clearly noticeable.

The weather will calm down on Sunday (August 25). The probability of precipitation will drop to 32 percent and most weather models are predicting a dry day with a mix of sun and cloud. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 18 degrees. The wind will continue to drop, averaging 25 km/h and gusting up to 40 km/h. It will increasingly shift to the west as the day progresses
