Formula 1 weather 2024: The forecast for the race in Spielberg

The current weather forecast for the eleventh race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria

There are crucial questions on every Formula 1 2024 race weekend: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Do we need intermediates or even rain tires? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tires will suffice? In short: What do the drivers around Nico Hülkenberg, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?

In order to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the start of the tests or race weekends. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days of each weekend.

The result is the most accurate weather forecast possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2024 Formula 1 season. However, all information is subject to change, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there without warning.

The next time Formula 1 takes to the track in Spielberg will be from June 28 to 30 for the Austrian Grand Prix, the eleventh race of the year.

The current weather forecast for the race weekend in Spielberg:

As so often in recent years, Formula 1 is expecting summery weather in Styria, but no stable sunshine. On all three days, especially on Sunday, heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are to be expected. The forecast in detail.

On Friday (June 28), there will be plenty of sunshine and some clouds in the sky, especially in the afternoon, from which it may rain like showers. However, the chance of precipitation is still moderate at 54 percent and large amounts of rain are not expected.

The temperature will rise to 27 degrees in the afternoon. The wind will be light, gusting from south to west at a maximum of 20 km/h and will not have a significant impact on car handling.

Saturday (June 29) also starts sunny. As things stand, the sprint at 12:00 will take place in dry conditions. However, it will become increasingly cloudy in the afternoon and heavy showers and thunderstorms are to be expected during the qualifying session (from 16:00).

As these always occur locally, it is not possible to predict in advance whether they will hit the track or pass it by. The probability of precipitation increases to 66 percent compared to the previous day.

With daily highs around 28 degrees, it will remain summery warm. The wind will continue to blow weakly from the south at an average of 15 km/h. However, squalls are also possible during showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday (June 30) will be similar to Saturday. After a sunny start, the sky will become increasingly cloudy in the afternoon. During the race (from 3 p.m.), showers and thunderstorms are to be expected with a 78 percent chance of precipitation.

These can be heavy and bring large amounts of rain in a short space of time. However, it remains the case that the exact location of the showers can only be predicted at short notice. The temperature will reach 29 degrees. The wind will continue to blow weakly from the south to west at an average of 15 km/h. Strong gusts are possible again in showers and thunderstorms

The forecast for the next race in Great Britain

The forecast for the next race in Silverstone (July 5-7) is currently for a dry but often overcast weekend with highs just above 20 degrees Celsius. An exact forecast will follow here at the beginning of the race week
