The current weather forecast for the 18th race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore
There are crucial questions on every Formula 1 2024 race weekend: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Do we need intermediates or even rain tires? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tires will suffice? In short: What do the drivers around Nico Hülkenberg, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?
In order to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the start of the tests or race weekends. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days of each weekend.
The result is the most accurate weather forecast possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2024 Formula 1 season. However, all information is subject to change, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there without warning.
Formula 1 next takes to the track in Singapore from September 20 to 22 for the Singapore Grand Prix, the 18th race of the year.
The current weather forecast for the race weekend in Singapore:
The Formula 1 practice session in Singapore on Friday (September 20) will be swelteringly hot for drivers and teams: The first session will take place in air temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius and humidity of 77 percent. On top of that, there is a chance of light showers, which could affect not only the first but also the second free practice session.
The wind will blow from the south on Friday and weaken as the day progresses: Where initially there is still an average of 13 km/h, later it is only nine km/h. Individual gusts of up to 24 km/h are forecast. The wind direction mainly means a tailwind on the straight between bends 13 and 14 and on the home straight.
On Saturday (September 21), new rain will come to Singapore, but before Formula 1 takes to the track. It is therefore possible that the Marina Bay Circuit will be wet or damp when the drivers start the third free practice session. However, there should be no more showers as the day progresses.
Temperatures of up to 29 degrees Celsius are expected for Saturday’s Formula 1 driving times. At 80 percent, the humidity is a tad higher than on Friday.
The wind will turn slightly and hit the race track from a south-easterly direction, but weaker than the day before: on average, it is only twelve km/h, weakening to six km/h in the evening. At its peak, just over 20 km/h is possible. The wind direction mainly means a headwind before turn 13 between the two bridge crossings.
There is also a chance of rain in Singapore on Sunday (September 22), but – as on Saturday – the showers are likely to arrive before the Formula 1 action. This could again result in a wet or damp track for the Grand Prix starting at 8pm local time.
Temperatures on Sunday will be 27 degrees Celsius, slightly below the level of the previous days. However, humidity will rise to 91 percent, the highest level of the weekend.
The wind shifts again significantly on Sunday and then comes from a north-easterly direction, which can mean crosswinds in the chicane after the start and finish and headwinds on the home straight. However, the wind is not particularly strong: the average speed is six km/h, with individual gusts reaching eleven km/h. That is considerably less than on the previous days in Singapore
The forecast for the next race in Austin
We do not yet have a weather forecast for the 2024 USA Grand Prix in Austin (October 18-20). However, the weather is usually good in the region in mid/late October, with temperatures averaging (well) above 20 degrees Celsius during the day. There are also only five to seven rainy days per month on average in Austin. So there is a good chance of a dry track. However, a real weather forecast can only be made during the race week
