The current weather forecast for the 16th race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Circuit Monza in Italy
There are crucial questions on every Formula 1 2024 race weekend: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Do we need intermediates or even rain tires? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tires will suffice? In short, what do the drivers around Nico Hülkenberg, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?
In order to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the start of the tests or race weekends. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days of each weekend.
The result is the most accurate weather forecast possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2024 Formula 1 season. However, all information is subject to change, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there without warning.
The next time Formula 1 takes to the track in Italy will be from August 30 to September 1 for the Italian Grand Prix, the 16th race of the year.
The current weather forecast for the race weekend in Monza:
The Formula 1 entourage will be welcomed to Monza on Friday and Saturday with summer temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius and plenty of sunshine. However, according to current forecasts, the weather will change on Sunday, so rain is to be expected during the race.
On Friday (August 30), the 20 Formula 1 drivers can look forward to perfect motorsport conditions. A cloudless sky is expected and the thermometer will climb up to 32 degrees Celsius. There will also be virtually no wind, with wind speeds of between three and seven km/h.
Individual gusts can reach speeds of up to 20 km/h per hour, but even that should not be a challenge for the drivers after the weekend on the North Sea coast in Zandvoort. The teams should therefore be able to complete their programs without any major disruptive factors.
On Saturday (August 31), the conditions will be similar to Friday – at least in the morning. Temperatures are again expected to be around 32 degrees Celsius and again only low wind speeds are forecast.
However, the sun will be replaced by clouds from midday onwards, bringing the temperatures down to 27 degrees Celsius for qualifying. The wind then comes from the south-west, but remains manageable with maximum speeds of 17 km/h.
Nevertheless, the wind direction means a tailwind on the start-finish straight for the drivers, which should help to squeeze out an extra km/h or two.
According to the current forecast, the weather will change completely in the evening hours and it will start to rain, which means that all the rubber that has been laid down over the weekend so far should be spooled off the track again.
Rain is forecast for the entire day on Sunday (September 01), meaning that the Grand Prix will take place in wet conditions according to current forecasts. The probability of precipitation during the race is 90 percent. In terms of temperature, it will be slightly cooler than on the previous days with a peak of 27 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, the wind will pick up a little with a top speed of 25 km/h. It will be blowing from the north-west on Sunday, which means a headwind for the riders at the start and finish and in the two Lesmo corners. All in all, not easy conditions for the riders. But we fans can look forward to an exciting race
