The current weather forecast for the eleventh race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain
There are crucial questions on every Formula 1 race weekend in 2024: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Do we need intermediates or even rain tires? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tires will suffice? In short: What do the drivers around Nico Hülkenberg, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?
In order to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the start of the tests or race weekends. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days of each weekend.
The result is the most accurate weather forecast possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2024 Formula 1 season. However, all information is subject to change, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there without warning.
Formula 1 next takes to the track at Silverstone from July 5 to 7 for the British Grand Prix, the twelfth race of the year.
The current weather forecast for the race weekend at Silverstone:
Autumnal, or, as some would say, typically British weather awaits Formula 1 at Silverstone: cool temperatures, rain and strong winds on all three days of the race weekend. The forecast in detail.
Friday (July 5) starts with heavy clouds. Only in the early hours of the morning will there be a chance of sunshine from time to time. Rain will set in from the morning. Throughout the day, the rain may be prolonged and heavy, meaning that the free practice sessions will probably take place on a wet track. The maximum temperature will be 17 degrees Celsius.
There will also be a strong wind blowing from the south to southwest at an average of 30 km/h and gusts of up to 60 km/h. There will therefore be a significant tailwind in turns 1, 2 and 3 as well as 7 and 8, which will noticeably reduce the cars’ downforce. In the fast corners 9 (Copse) and 15 (Stowe), crosswinds can lead to unstable driving behavior.
The rain stops in the night to Saturday (July 6). During the day, the sun will appear again and again between the many clouds. Brief showers are possible, especially in the afternoon, but will not bring much rain. Overall, it will be the friendliest day of the weekend.
The temperature will reach a maximum of 18 degrees Celsius. The wind will continue to blow strongly, averaging 30 km/h and gusting up to 65 km/h, but will shift to the west. This means a tailwind in the Copse Curve and a crosswind in the fast Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel combination.
On Sunday (July 7), rain showers are to be expected from the morning hours onwards. There may be brief sunny spells in between, but overall it will be a mixed day and it is quite likely that the race will take place on a wet track, at least at times.
The maximum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius will be similar to the previous days. The wind is still blowing from the west, but is easing noticeably. Gusts of up to 35 km/h are forecast
