The latest weather forecast for the 14th race of the 2022 Formula One season at Spa-Francorchamps, with predictions for the subsequent race at Zandvoort
There are very crucial questions on every race weekend of Formula 1 2022. Namely: What is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Will we need intermediates or even rain tyres? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tyres will suffice? In short: What do the drivers around Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?
To be able to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the tests or race weekends begin. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days per weekend.
The result is a weather forecast that is as accurate as possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2022 Formula 1 season. However, all information is without guarantee, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there unannounced.
Formula 1 will next take to the track at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from 26-28 August 2022 for the 14th race of the 2022 Formula 1 season
The latest forecast for the 14th race of the season at Spa-Francorchamps (26-28 August):
Formula 1 returns from its summer break this weekend with the Belgian Grand Prix. The Circuit Spa-Francorchamps is considered one of the best tracks by drivers and fans alike. But at least last season the motorsport festival literally fell through – can that happen again this year?
At least on Friday, rain clouds are gathering over the Ardennes and there is also a chance of a thunderstorm. The probability of rain during the practice sessions is around 40 per cent. Consequently, only mild temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius are to be expected. The wind will come from the north-west, but will only reach manageable top speeds of 28 km/h.
On Saturday morning, the sky will remain overcast and more rain showers are to be expected. In the afternoon, however, the clouds will clear and the sun will appear. Temperatures will climb up to 21 degrees Celsius.
During the qualifying it should be dry. And the wind should not be a problem either: On Saturday, it will come from the north-east and reach top speeds of 36 km/h. For the riders, this means a tailwind on the track. For the drivers, this means a tailwind on the Kemmel straight and a headwind on the start-finish straight.
The race Sunday is the most beautiful day of the weekend. Sun and clouds continue to alternate, but so far it is not supposed to rain. And the temperatures also reach their highest level of the weekend with 23 degrees Celsius just in time for the race.
Unlike on the two previous days, the wind on Sunday will come from the east, which means crosswinds for the riders in the “Les Combes” and “Les Fagnes” curves. However, strong winds are not to be expected, the expected wind speed during the Grand Prix is 25 km/h.
Note: This forecast will be updated several times during the week!
The first forecast for the following race in Zandvoort (04.09.2022):
The first forecasts suggest a dry Dutch Grand Prix with temperatures pleasantly between 16 and 22 degrees Celsius. However, relatively strong winds of up to 50 km/h are to be expected, which is not surprising given Zandvoort’s coastal location.
