Formula 1 announces the six sprint races of the 2025 season

Formula 1 will once again host six sprint races in 2025 – there is only one change compared to 2024: Spielberg no longer a sprint after three years

Formula 1 has announced the six races at which sprint weekends will be held in the 2025 season: The Grands Prix in Shanghai (China), Miami (USA), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Austin (USA), Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Doha (Qatar) will run with the sprint format next year.

“The six events for 2025 once again include a number of interesting circuits and will certainly offer fans plenty of additional action over the course of the season,” emphasizes FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem.

This means that Formula 1 is basically sticking to the previous venues, with one exception. Instead of Austria, Belgium will return to the sprint calendar after a one-year break. All other weekends will also be held with a sprint race in 2024.

Brazil thus continues its run and is the only place where a sprint race has taken place every year since the introduction of sprint races for the 2021 Formula 1 season. 2025 will be the fifth sprint event in Sao Paulo.

Austin and Qatar are among the hosts for the third time in a row. Austria would have been the fourth sprint, but instead of Spielberg, the additional race will be held at Spa-Francorchamps, where the sprint had already taken place in 2023.

There will therefore not be a completely new venue for the sprint, as it will also be the second time for Shanghai and Miami after 2024. However, Shanghai will move to the second calendar slot after Melbourne in 2025, meaning there will be a sprint relatively early in the year

Domenicali emphasizes the success of the sprint races

“The sprint is a great success for Formula 1 and brings all fans more action and racing on the track. We see the proof of this in our spectator numbers, the fan participation on Fridays and with the organizers and partners,” emphasizes Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali

“As we prepare for our 75th anniversary in 2025, we will always honor our incredible history, but we must always look forward, innovate and improve to provide the best for our growing and diverse fan base,” says the Italian.

He emphasizes: “The sprint is a great example of how we can bring new elements to our sport without neglecting the championship. I would like to thank the six venues hosting the Sprint in 2025 and look forward to these incredible events throughout the season. “

No changes to the format

As things stand, no changes to the current format are planned. Before this season, the FIA had changed the schedule and moved the sprint from Saturday afternoon to the morning in order to allow regular qualifying to take place in its original position

Previously, it had been held on Friday afternoon, but this year the sprint qualifying will take place there, so that the sprint event is no longer decoupled from the rest of the weekend on one day.

The parc-ferme rule has also been adapted so that set-up changes are once again possible after the sprint. This format will also be retained in 2025
