Former world champion August ‘Agge’ Rosenmeier ends FIFA career

One of the biggest stars of FIFA-eSports leaves the virtual turf. After a time-out and a short comeback, ‘Agge’ finally ends his career

His statistics on Twitter read impressive: 2x World Champion, 7x Danish Champion, 24x Live Event Winner. The Dane has brought several trophies home in his active career. The highlight – the World Champion title in 2014.

On 14 February 2022, ‘Agge’ announced the end of his career as a professional FIFA eSport athlete via Twitter:

“Today marks the end of my professional journey. In other words, I’m hanging up my controller to retire as a competitive FIFA player. It is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make…”

The 25-year-old previously took a FIFA sabbatical in October 2019. In addition to criticising FIFA gameplay, the game was taking too much of a toll on him mentally, he said at the time.

Four months later, the “batteries were recharged”, ‘Agge’ re-entered the professional stage. Apart from a top 32 finish in the FUT 20 Champions Cup VI, he managed to climb the podium once again after the break in FIFA 21. Together with Danish team Astralis, ‘Agge’ was runner-up at the FIFAe Club World Cup 2021.

You never go all the way

“When I look back on the last ten years, I am very proud of what I have achieved as a professional player. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine they would become a reality when I was playing [FIFA 2002] in my brother’s room,” Rosenmeier continued on Twitter.

Ten years of professional career with stations in Copenhagen, at Red Bull, PSG, Hashtag United and most recently Astralis. Even though ‘Agge’ is retiring from competitive sport, he will not be completely out of the picture, as he shared at the end of the message:

“The last few months may have looked quiet, but I’ve been hard at work planning the next steps of my career and can’t wait to share more with you all.”

A great in FIFA eSports is leaving the active stage. Now it’s up to young Danes to bring home the FIFA trophies by the dozen.
