Former tennis star Williams undergoes neck surgery

Serena Williams reports to her fans from the hospital. She had to undergo surgery.

In a purple shirt and with a mask under her chin, tennis icon Serena Williams appears in a TikTok video in the hospital. The 43-year-old explains in the video that she had neck surgery and came through it well. She also shows her neck, on which a compress and the taped scar can be seen.

The most successful tennis player of the Open Era wrote about the video: “In May, I discovered a lump on my neck. I went to the doctor immediately, had an MRI done and was told that I had a brachial cyst. Have you ever heard of that?” A lateral neck cyst is a swelling on the neck. Williams explained that the doctors told her she “didn’t need to have it removed,” so she didn’t at first.
But it kept growing,” Williams said.
The multiple Grand Slam winner elaborated, ”But it kept growing. I decided to have more tests done, and three tests and a biopsy later, everything was still negative, but the doctors advised me to have it removed as soon as possible because it was the size of a small grapefruit and could have become infected or even leaked.” Williams then decided to have it removed. ‘It kind of hurt, the doctors had to put in a drain,’ Williams said. But now the surgery was well over.

The video recordings show the progress. The US-American is “so grateful and happy that everything went well”. Fans continued to wish her a speedy recovery under the video or gave tips for further treatment with the tissue on the neck.
