Former number one has panic attack on court

The French Open is over for Simona Halep. The former number one was eliminated in the second round against Zheng Qinwen from China. During the match, the Romanian had to deal with a panic attack.

Former world number one Simona Halep has reported having a panic attack after her second round loss at the French Open. “Something happened” in the second set, the 30-year-old Romanian tennis player said after losing 6-2, 2-6, 1-6 to China’s Zheng Qinwen. She had experienced a panic attack. “I didn’t know how to deal with it because I don’t have them often.”

Halep reported that she may have put herself under too much pressure. The doctors had certified that she was physically okay, she said. “After the match it was pretty tough. But now I am fine. I have recovered and I will learn from this episode,” Halep said.

She had won the French Open in 2018 and also triumphed at Wimbledon a year later. In the meantime, she is ranked 19th in the world.
