Former NBA champion Marc Gasol ends his career

Marc Gasol, a Spanish legend, has ended his active career. However, he will remain involved in basketball

Marc Gasol, together with his brother Pau, is one of the best Spanish basketball players of all time. Both are regarded as legends in their country. Now the 39-year-old Marc has also ended his active career. He last played for his own club Basquet Girona in Spain’s second division.

His great basketball career began in Spain with FC Barcelona. He then made the big step to the NBA in 2008, where he played for the Memphis Grizzlies. He stayed there until 2019 and became one of the franchise’s greatest players.

Gasol then celebrated his greatest success at club level in 2019 with the Toronto Raptors. Alongside Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard, he won the NBA title against the Golden State Warriors.

Big titles with the national team

But the big man also enjoyed great success with the national team. He was part of a golden Spanish generation and won the World Cup title twice with the team (2006 and 2019), the European Championship title twice (2009 and 2011) and silver twice at the Olympic Games.

Gasol ended his career in the NBA in 2021, his last stop being the Los Angeles Lakers. He then returned home to Basquet Girona, where he has played in recent years. The club that the 39-year-old founded. After his active career, he will of course remain with the club and wants to pass on his basketball knowledge to the next generation, among other things.
