Boris Becker will commentate live on the US Open. But in doing so, the 55-year-old will no longer be in action for Eurosport.
Boris Becker will be back as an expert for the US Open broadcasts. The 55-year-old tennis legend will report live from the Grand Slam tournament in New York alongside Matthias Stach on the streaming portal Sportdeutschland.TV.
“It is a fantastic tournament. Anyone who has ever been to New York and experienced the Night Session in front of 25,000 spectators – I will never forget it,” said Becker, looking forward to the possible duel between the “old king” Novak Djokovic and the “new king” Carlos Alcaraz. Becker won the US Open in 1989.
Mischa Zverev is also taking part
As the operator of Sportdeutschland.TV, DOSB New Media GmbH had surprisingly secured the media rights to the US Open from 2023 to 2027. Users can watch every match live – singles, doubles, mixed and junior and wheelchair matches. Some of the matches will be available free of charge, including the qualifiers and the doubles up to the semi-finals.
For the main round, Sportdeutschland.TV will offer a free four-hour daily conference from the Düsseldorf studio. The live feed will be accompanied by Alexander Zverev’s older brother Mischa, among others. Those who want to watch the full programme of the US Open can buy an “All Access Tournament Ticket” for 20 Euros (until 20 August) or 25 Euros. A day ticket costs 10 euros, individual matches 5 euros.
Users have the opportunity to get in touch with Becker and Co. via a chat function. “Communicating directly with the fans is something I’m really looking forward to,” said Becker.
In recent years, the US Open has been shown on Eurosport, the channel also has the Australian and the French Open in its programme. The media rights for the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon are held by the pay-TV channel Sky.
