FM25: These features and modes will be removed

The release of Football Manager 2025 is still a while away, but some information is already available. Developer CEO Miles Jacobson revealed which features and modes will no longer be available

Under the premise of the “new era”, Sports Interactive announced the upcoming part of the series some time ago. The curtain has not yet been brought down completely, but initial information is already available. It has been clear for some time that a new engine will be used to enhance the 3D experience in Football Manager.

In a developer update, Miles Jacobson, CEO of Sports Interactive, has now provided further insights. Among other things, he revealed that some features and game modes will not make it into Football Manager 2025.

The list of features includes shouting during the game. Jacobson was never happy with the “most used feature”: “Shouts were supposed to be something spontaneous, but they were only effective after a game had been interrupted. It was also not clear to players how long a shout-out would last. That’s why shouting is no longer part of Football Manager for the time being.” Accordingly, the virtual coach’s verbal influence will only return “when we can implement it properly”.

The tactics board, which “was accessible via player profiles and displayed additional data on players and teams”, has also been removed. This has become “superfluous” as the data center “presents the analysis data much better”. This is also reflected in the usage figures for the tactics board, which fell from ten percent to less than one percent of all players.

Two modes less – fantasy mode to be released later

The usage figures were also decisive for a mode that will not be included in FM25 at least. Only 0.5 percent of virtual coaches still played Versus mode. However, a comeback after a redesign is planned for the future. However, this has not yet been started, which is why the mode will be missing in the next installment.

Apart from the mobile version, the challenge mode has also hardly been used in recent years. Accordingly, it is still included in the console edition, Touch and Mobile, but is no longer available on PC. This is set to change “according to our current plans in Football Manager 2026 or 2027”. There, the mode will “come back completely revised.”

While not on day one, Fantasy mode will be available to play in Football Manager 2025. From August 29 to September 1, the first ever major eSports tournament will be held in the Football Manager simulation. The tournament is being organized together with the world governing body FIFA
