Real Madrid won their third game in the young La Liga season. At Celta Vigo, the royals had a hard time for a long time – until newcomer Bellingham scored again.
It smelt like Real Madrid were going to draw level for the first time this season – but then came new signing Bellingham. The Englishman, still only 20, was determined to get on the end of the ball, cut in front of the line and scored late on with a diving header.
Celta Vigo’s early lead conceded by VAR
Thanks to that goal, the Madrilenians prevailed narrowly in the end, though they struggled for a long time. Carlo Ancelotti’s team, who had helped keeper Kepa make his Real debut after the 3-1 defeat at UD Almeria and brought on Camavinga instead of Kroos, was supposedly behind early on. But the VAR intervened and Strand Larsen’s goal (3rd) was taken back for a foul on Kepa.
In the following, an open game developed, in which Vinicius Junior had to be substituted early with thigh problems (18.). The Celtistas had good moments again and again: ex-Barça player Mingueza shot just past (23rd, 33rd) and Bamba just missed the goal after his assist (45th).
Rodrygo’s penalty is saved
Nevertheless, Real were the better team. Rodrygo shot past the goal after the break (57th), Valverde did the same (62nd). The former missed a great chance to take the lead shortly afterwards when he failed to score from the spot against keeper Ivan Villar (68th).
Real started but found few gaps, while Strand Larsen twice went close for the underdogs (64th, 70th).
And so Bellingham had to decide the game: The newcomer from Dortmund got through after a Kroos corner and finished with a diving header (81st). In the seven minutes of injury time, Vigo were unable to break through.
The Royals are top of the table with nine points. Their goal difference is 6:1 – four goals of which were scored by Bellingham, who had already decided the previous match for the Blancos.
