Fix. Bonga moves to Bayern in the BBL

National player Isaac Bonga is moving back to Germany after four seasons in the North American professional league NBA. On Friday morning, FC Bayern made the transfer, which had been leaked earlier, official.

In one week Bayern will start training for the new season, now they have signed another player for the upcoming BBL season: German international Isaac Bonga moves to Munich and signs for two seasons. The 22-year-old last played in the NBA for Toronto.

The 2.03 m tall and defensively strong guard, who is missing from the German national team’s line-up for the home European Championships (1 to 18 September) due to an injury, had moved to the USA from the Frankfurt Skyliners in 2018. Bonga played 143 main-round and five play-off games in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, who drafted him at No. 39, the Washington Wizards and the Toronto Raptors.

Most recently, Bonga only played for Toronto’s farm team. Now he wants to prove himself again in the BBL, where he has already played 48 times.

Bayern offer “Competition on a high level “

“After the exciting years in the NBA, where I learned a lot, it was time for a new chapter, and Bayern is just a very good organisation. It offers you competition on a high level, especially with the EuroLeague. I think my strength is the flexibility in defence as well as in offence. I can defend positions one to five and I just want to bring my flow back to Germany,” Bonga is quoted as saying on the Munich website.

And FCBB sports director Daniele Baiesi adds: “Isaac is incredibly versatile and talented. He is a modern player whose great potential has not yet been fully exploited. We are honoured that he has chosen us to do just that now. “
