The SG Flensburg-Handewitt still has to wait for their first win in the current Champions League season. After two defeats in a row, however, it was at least enough for a draw against the top team of Paris St. Germain.
The Northern Germans drew 27:27 (14:13) against the French champions Paris St.-Germain in front of their home crowd on Wednesday. Hampus Wanne scored seven goals for the SG. Mikkel Hansen scored six times for Paris.
Thanks to the saves of the strong goalkeeper Benjamin Buric, the Flensburg team started the game very well. Simon Hald scored a counter-attack goal into the empty goal of the visitors to make it 5:4 and give the SG their first lead in the 13th minute. Shortly before the break, Wanne converted a penalty kick to make it 13:10 (25th).
After the change of ends, a poor use of chances prevented the hosts from gaining a clear lead. So the lead changed back and forth until the final phase. A few seconds before the end, a bad pass by Mads Mensah Larsen prevented a possible chance of victory.
