Rome – With his first win since January 2021, Swiss tennis pro Stan Wawrinka has reached the second round at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.
The 37-year-old won his opening match against American Reilly Opelka 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Wawrinka had to take a break since March last year due to a complicated foot injury and only returned to the ATP Tour at the beginning of April at the tournament in Monte Carlo. There, however, he failed right at the start.
The three-time Grand Slam champion celebrated his last victory to date in the first round of the Australian Open 2021.
