VfR Aalen has signed Mario Szabo to a professional contract. The 18-year-old has already celebrated his debut in the men’s game for the south-western regional league club.
“I am very happy to have signed my first professional contract with VfR Aalen and I am very much looking forward to the future games in the VfR Aalen shirt,” Szabo is quoted as saying on the club’s website.
Szabo actually still plays for the Aalen U19s, but has already celebrated his debut in the men’s game this season when he was substituted in injury time on matchday 20 in VfR’s 4-3 win over second-tier side 1 FSV Mainz 05.
The left-back exhibited “a high willingness to run and speed”, the club statement said. “The ‘TAAlentschmiede’ of VfR Aalen has once again fulfilled its ‘mission’ and trained the next talent on the way to the first men’s team with Mario Szabo,” said Aalen’s managing director Giuseppe Lepore.
Aalen is thus continuing on its path of primarily relying on young talent. Just a few days ago, the ninth-placed team in the Regionalliga Südwest extended the contracts of the two youngsters Tim Schmidt and Eduard Heckmann.
