“Firmly bitten”: Gladbach keeps homegrown Beyer until 2026

As a 15-year-old, Jordan Beyer started at Borussia Mönchengladbach. A long time that is not yet over: the career of the now 21-year-old will continue beyond the season with the Foals.

On 25 August 2018, Beyer celebrated his Bundesliga debut in a Fohlen shirt in the 2-0 derby win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and since then another 21 games in Germany’s top division have been added for the defender at VfL. And there are still more to come. Beyer has extended his contract, which runs until the end of the season, by four years until 30 June 2026, the club announced on Wednesday.

He’s a great defensive talent and has since stuck in the team.

“We are delighted to have extended the contract with Jordan,” said sporting director Max Eberl. “He’s a great defensive talent and has since got his teeth into the team until he unfortunately got injured. We are happy that he is now back on the training pitch and available to us. “

Beyer, who was loaned out to Hamburger SV in the first half of 2020 and played eleven second division games there, thinks it is “simply nice to be able to continue playing for my heart’s club. The club I grew up with, played for since my youth and was a fan of.”

Now he is part of the team and he hopes that the Foals, who will lose Matthias Ginter in the summer, would “get back on track as quickly as possible”. VfL are now just two points clear of the relegation places and three clear of a direct relegation spot.

Beyer was on the pitch six times this season and also in the starting eleven six times before he injured himself in the DFB Cup in the sensational 5-0 win over FC Bayern and was unable to play again. “For me it was a super first half of the season, probably the best I have played so far.” He now wants to pick up where he left off after his injury break and help Gladbach: “We’ll all pull ourselves together now and give everything so that we can get back on the road to success as quickly as possible. “
