This weekend, the European LoL elite will play for the LEC title in Montpellier. Even before the winner has been decided, it is clear where the next champion will be crowned: in 2024, the title will be decided in Munich.
“Highscore for Bavaria” with delay
With a delay of three years, 2024 will be different – much to the delight of Bavarian Digital Minister Judith Gerlach: “This is the high score for Bavaria! With the European finals of League of Legends, we have brought a great event to the Free State.” The eSports classic has been “captivating a lively and committed community of players worldwide for years”. Being able to welcome them to Munich is “a great honour for Bavaria as a high-tech location”, according to the statement.
A venue has already been found and is brimming with history. It is the Munich Olympic Hall, which was built in the course of the 1972 Games and renovated in 2009. Since the modernisation, the arena can hold up to 15,500 spectators. According to the Bavarian Digital Ministry, “about 12,000 fans are expected on site” during the LEC. In addition, “over one million online viewers” are expected.
