Fifth case at VfB: Müller tested positive

Florian Müller (23) may not be available to VfB Stuttgart at the weekend. The goalkeeper also tested positive for the coronavirus.

The coronavirus continues to disrupt the VfB Stuttgart squad. After Waldemar Anton and Erik Thommy, Fabian Bredlow and Roberto Massimo, it has now hit Florian Müller – after a weekend off.

According to the club, the goalkeeper is in domestic isolation. The Stuttgart club did not provide any information on his state of health. However, the Olympian has been vaccinated just like Bredlow and Massimo.

“We have significantly increased the number of tests after the first positive cases last week and intensified the hygiene regulations around the training sessions beyond the prescribed level,” said sports director Sven Mislintat. “We hope that these measures will lead to no further positive cases being added in the coming days.”

Müller, signed for five million euros from 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the summer, has so far played all seven Bundesliga games for VfB (kicker average mark 3.36). Who will replace the 23-year-old at the weekend – if he has to be replaced – is still unclear. The third goalkeeper is 20-year-old Florian Schock.
