FIFAe World Cup: ‘Umut’ without problems – German duel for World Cup ticket

The last tickets to the FIFAe World Cup 2022 have been allocated. While ‘Umut’ secured one without any problems, there was an undesirable constellation for two Germans: a direct duel in the deciding match.

After Dylan ‘DullenMIKE’ Neuhausen qualified for the FIFAe World Cup 2022 yesterday, Umut ‘Umut’ Gültekin and Benedikt ‘BeneCR7’ Bauer followed suit today.

Umut’ left little doubt that after the German singles champion, his opponent in the final would also qualify for Copenhagen. In the Winner Bracket he did not lose a single game (3:1 and 5:0).

German Drama

There was much more drama around Benedikt ‘BeneCR7’ Bauer and Levy Finn ‘levyfinn’ Rieck. The player from Bochum lost his first match with a total of 0:5 against ‘Dudu’, thus slipping into the loser bracket. The same happened to Rieck, who suffered his first defeat in the deciding match of the Winner Bracket – against Dan ‘Stingrayjr’ Ray (2:4).

This meant that what both would have liked to avoid happened: they had to play each other in the deciding match for the World Championship place. In the first leg, Bauer set the course for the overall victory, 3:1 after the first 90 minutes. ‘levyfinn’ didn’t manage to build up any more pressure – with a 1:0 ‘BeneCR7’ finally drew the World Cup ticket.

His club colleague – Koray ‘Kkoray’ Kücükgünar – also got himself a ticket for Copenhagen. In the loser’s bracket he won twice by a narrow margin. He won 3:2 against Ethan ‘EthxnH’ Higgins and Yuval ‘YuvalBeli’ Blizovsky.

WM 2018 winner not there

Also in Copenhagen: superstar Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt. Like ‘Umut’, he won his way through the Winner Bracket. Visibly moved, he wrote on Twitter: “I’ve practiced so much and pushed myself so hard over the last few months. Just for this moment, which has been three years coming, I’m back at the World Cup!”

On the other hand, 2018 World Cup winner Mosaad ‘Msdossary’ Aldossary did not qualify. He lost his first match in both the Winner and Loser Bracket. The same goes for Austrian Ajdin ‘eyedin98’ Islamovic.

The World Cup will start on Thursday, 14.07.2022. The final will be held on Sunday, 17.07.2022. The search is on for the successor to Mohammed ‘MoAuba’ Harkous.
