FIFA will present the Football Awards for the best professionals and coaches in women’s and men’s football in the 2020/21 season on 17 January 2022.
FIFA will award athletes and officials in a total of ten different categories. Due to the Corona situation and the protective measures in place, the event will only be held virtually from FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.
Four different groups will decide who receives an award: In addition to the captains and head coaches of the national teams from around the world, fans and a select group of over 300 media representatives can also cast their votes. Voting is possible from 22 November to 10 December 2021.
One of the favourites is certainly Bayern goal scorer Robert Lewandowski, who won the trophy for the first time last year. In the women’s category, there is a lot to be said for Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas, who has already been voted Europe’s female footballer of the year.
On 29 November, France Football will select the winner of the Ballon d’Or, which has been awarded separately from the FIFA award since 2016. In 2020, the pandemic had prevented the Ballon d’Or from being awarded.
