The UEFA Executive Committee is mainly composed of men. Former Norway international Lise Klaveness wants to stand as a candidate again. She has often criticized FIFA.
Klaveness wants to run for the mainly male-occupied UEFA Executive Committee. This was announced by the Norwegian Football Association, of which Klaveness is president. The 43-year-old is considered an uncomfortable voice in world football. She has been particularly critical of the world governing body FIFA on several occasions.
“The time has come for me,” said the former national player. ‘In recent years, I have traveled all over Europe to better understand the dynamics of international football management. My passion for the sport, which I have loved since I was a child, motivates me to work hard and use my experience to make a difference.’
One place on the UEFA Executive Committee must be filled by a woman
Klaveness already ran for a place on the UEFA Executive Committee in 2023, but she failed. Two years ago, she was the first female association president to apply for a regular place. At the upcoming election on April 3 in the Serbian capital Belgrade, as part of the regular UEFA Congress, she now wants to be elected via the quota for women. According to the UEFA statutes, at least one seat on the Executive Committee must be occupied by a woman.
