EA SPORTS announced a reaction to the Ukraine war on Wednesday: The Russian national team and all Russian clubs will be removed from FIFA 22.
It took the developer a few days, but late Wednesday afternoon it did hold out the prospect of consequences: In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, EA SPORTS is removing all Russian clubs and the national team from FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online “in line with partners FIFA and UEFA. “
“EA SPORTS stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and calls – like so many voices in the world of football – for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” the video game giant communicated in a new message on social media.
Further changes under consideration
The processes to remove the Russian national team and Russian clubs have already begun. In addition, EA SPORTS is investigating further changes related to the Ukraine war – this certainly includes the Gazprom logo on the FC Schalke 04 jerseys.
The Knappen had already announced on 24 February that they no longer wanted to advertise for the Russian natural gas production company. At the weekend, the Gazprom logo was not to be seen on the S04 jerseys at the second league match against Karlsruher SC – in FIFA 22 it is still emblazoned on the royal blue chest.
Spartak, Lokomotive and ZSKA affected
The Russian clubs to be removed are namely the three capital clubs Spartak Moscow, Lokomotive Moscow and ZSKA Moscow. The Russian Premier League is not licensed in FIFA 22, but the Moscow clubs can be found under the “Rest of the World” so far.
“We will keep our communities informed of any actions taken and thank players for their patience while we process these updates,” EA SPORTS concludes the announcement. Incidentally, the developer is taking the same action for NHL 22 – supplemented by the Belarusian national team.
