FIFA 22: Bongard to be removed from Gladbach squad and packs

EA SPORTS reacts to the tragic accidental death of Jordi Bongard and will remove him from the Gladbach squad and packs of FIFA 22 Ultimate Team (FUT).

Borussia Mönchengladbach had gone public with the sad news of the death of U-23 player Jordi Bongard on Thursday lunchtime. The centre-back had died in a serious car accident the night before, aged just 20.

The Foals were shocked by the passing of the former Germany Under-18 international, with training and a press conference cancelled on Thursday. Bongard had never featured for Gladbach’s first team but signed his first professional contract last summer.

FUT price range to be fixed

Many FIFA fans will probably not have known that Bongard could also be controlled on the virtual pitch – EA SPORTS had even awarded the defensive man a bronze card for FUT in FIFA 22. Now, however, the developer is reacting to the Borussian’s accidental death and removing him from the latest spin-off.

“In order to grant him a fitting memory”, EA SPORTS is taking three measures, according to the in-game announcement. Bongard will no longer be found in the Borussia Mönchengladbach squad in future, his bronze item will no longer be available to pull from FUT 22 packs and the price range on the transfer market will be fixed.

Still playable in kick-off mode

The latter in particular is always necessary, as some impious traders do not shy away from the death of a player and try to profit. It seems that EA SPORTS has not yet implemented all the steps, Bongard is at least still represented in kick-off mode with both the standard squads and the live squads.
