Tennis star Novak Djokovic is taking it as an added incentive to be able to draw level with his retired long-time Swiss rival and record holder Roger Federer by winning the Wimbledon final. “Of course I’m aware that Roger has eight Wimbledon victories,” said the seven-time Wimbledon champion from Serbia: “It’s about history. At the end of the two-week Grand Slam tournament in London, Djokovic (37) will fight for the title against Carlos Alcaraz (21) in the men’s final this afternoon (3.00 pm/Prime). It will be a rematch of a thrilling duel from 2023, which the young Spaniard won last year.

“Every time I step on the court now, even if I’m 37 and playing against a 21-year-old, I still expect to win most of the matches,” Djokovic said, “and people expect me to win 99 percent of the matches I play.”
With his 25th Grand Slam title, he could also leave the record holder in the women’s singles, Australian Margaret Court, in his wake. Djokovic is in the final just over five weeks after his knee operation. It is the first final this year for the world number two after a weaker season
