Fede Valverde’s dream assist for Mbappé: Real beat Betis

Real Madrid have put their bumpy start to the season behind them and secured their second win in their second home game. Mbappé was the man of the match against Real Betis Sevilla and celebrated his first goals in La Liga

Real, who started with Carvajal, Rodrygo and Dani Ceballos instead of Vazquez, Brahim Diaz and Modric compared to the 1-1 draw in Gran Canaria, dominated the game from the start. However, they struggled to create chances. Instead, it was the visitors from Sevilla who created the first danger and only just missed the opening goal in the person of Abde (10′).

The Whites, meanwhile, concentrated on setting up Mbappé to help the new signing score his first La Liga goal in his fourth appearance. However, Real also posed major problems as Betis defended compactly and conceded little. Eder Militao’s header in the 20th minute and Sabaly’s save from Mbappé (45.+1) were the only really noteworthy dangerous situations for the madridistas in the first half.

It was not until after the break that the reigning Champions League winners showed more power and almost took the lead, but Vinicius Junior’s low shot from 20 meters only hit the post (50′). The flow of the game suffered after that due to the many changes and fouls, which meant Real rarely got into finishing positions and struggled

Mbappé first from play, then from the spot

It took an outstanding individual effort from Fede Valverde to turn things in Real’s favor. The Uruguayan’s fine back-heel reached the onrushing Mbappé, who kept his cool in front of Rui Silva and slotted home his first La Liga goal (67′).

But that was not all: just seven minutes later, Vinicius Junior went down in the penalty area after being fouled by keeper Rui Silva, resulting in a penalty for the Blancos, which referee Javier Alberola Rojas only awarded after a video review. Mbappé then took responsibility, of course, easily denying Rui Silva to make it 2:0 (75′).

Nothing more happened after that, allowing Real to leapfrog FC Barcelona into second place and keep them on their heels. While the Whites visit San Sebastian after the upcoming international break (September 15), Betis host CD Leganes
