The 1st FC Magdeburg has solved its quarter-final hurdle in the Saxony-Anhalt state cup – the rather close result was probably also due to the last line-up of the third division club.
Without the injured or ill Baris Atik, Alexander Bittroff, Korbinian Burger, Sirlord Conteh, Maximilian Franzke, Sebastian Jakubiak, Florian Kath, Adrian Malachowski, Tobias Müller, Raphael Obermair, Leon Schmökel, Tim Sechelmann and Luka Sliskovic Magdeburg reached the final by 2: 0 (1:0) at sixth division side Romonta Amsdorf. The goals were scored by Jason Ceka before and Luca Schuler after the break. Benjamin Leneis played his first competitive match in the FCM jersey between the posts.
Due to the personnel problems, Christian Titz resorted to a rather unusual means in the final phase. In the 87th minute, the FCM coach substituted the two goalkeepers Dominik Reimann and Noah Kruth as outfield players. The U-19 talents Salem Nouwame and Kieran Ike also came on in the second half in front of 488 spectators.
“We arrived here with quite a thin squad. The important thing was that we progressed and we did that. Amsdorf did well though,” said Titz after the final whistle.
