FC Ingolstadt will start the rest of the series with a changed squad. Three newcomers were on the training pitch, while a quintet was missing. Coach Rüdiger Rehm’s suspicion of Corona has been confirmed.
With the newly signed Florian Pick, Hans Nunoo Sarpei and Dejan Stojanovic, the Schanzers had a fresh start on 2 January after the winter break.
Not present was coach Rüdiger Rehm, who had a suspected corona infection confirmed on Thursday and will therefore continue to miss. “It’s incredibly bitter not to be able to be with the team – both in terms of content, but especially emotionally. Fortunately, I have remained symptom-free and hope to be back on the pitch with the squad as soon as possible,” said Rehm.
When the coach is back, he will no longer be guiding five professionals with whom “open and honest talks were held after the last league match about their status and prospects” (Malte Metzelder). The decision was made to “keep the squad more compact”, as the manager of professional football let it be known on the club’s own website.
Stendera disappointed beyond measure
With Maximilian Beister, Peter Kurzweg, Marc Stendera, Patrick Sussek and Lukas Schellenberg, five players were excluded from first-team training. Much to the displeasure of Stendera in particular, who reacted stunned to his booting out – also because he had previously been in talks with the FCI about an extension due to his contract expiring at the end of the season: “I was surprised and still can’t accept it. I am very disappointed. “
On Thursday (3 p.m.), FCI have a test match against third-division side Würzburger on the agenda.
