The first weekend of the current FUT Birthday in FC 24 is over. To kick off the celebrations, EA SPORTS had to blow out six candles of the unsightly variety
The event started shortly after the kick-off with a new item from US player Rose Lavelle. It was “unintentionally missing the central midfield and right wing positions”, as the official X account ‘EA SPORTS FC Direct Communication’ announced. A minor mishap that was rectified immediately
Evolution without end
However, if you looked at the replies under the post, you could already guess that it wasn’t just going to be one faux pas. User ‘Jamie’, for example, described not being able to complete the currently available ‘multi-talent’ evolution. “I’m doing this evolution and the last task can’t be completed. Please fix it,” he wrote directly to the developer, who heard him on Sunday and after two days stated that he had fixed the evolution mechanics.
The criticism from user ‘SunShiner’ has been a different story so far: “Better get the Weekend League rewards right,” he said under the tweet about Lavelle’s faulty item, “I’ve reached rank 1, but I’m missing three packs!” And indeed: one day after the note about Lavelle, the developer also confirmed this omission on Saturday. “We have resolved an issue where the Champions rewards in Ultimate Team were not providing the ‘Campaign Mix’ packs,” it said. Players who had been deprived of the corresponding packs would receive them “in the coming days.”
Is EA SPORTS setting the right priorities?
Meanwhile, EA SPORTS acted much faster to resolve a problem with the Companion App that occurred the same evening. In the application, which allows players to access their FUT clubs via smartphone, Android users were unable to purchase FC Points for real money. 24 hours after the announcement to address this issue, the shortcoming had already been resolved: “The problem has been solved and the purchase of FC Points has been made possible again.”
The disproportionately quick correction was not well received by some users. Under the original post about the issue, ‘James’ speculated: “This will be fixed as soon as possible”, before the German content creator ‘JuliusFGU’ also commented under the information about the fix with an apparently rather ironic “Thank God”
An understandable criticism in parts, as EA SPORTS seems to have focused on the problems that directly affect its own income when dealing with the flood of errors. The faux pas, on the other hand, that the daily “FUT Birthday” task is not reset and could therefore only be completed once since Friday, is known to EA SPORTS, but is still waiting to be fixed as of Monday afternoon
Next SBC will result in compensation
Players who completed the ’87+ Campaign Mix’ SBC before Sunday will also have to put up with it. Items with a rating below 87 had also crept into the player selection. Accordingly, EA SPORTS is facing the next compensation for a Squadbuilding Challenge shortly after a faulty icon pick. Here too, the developer pointed out that “affected players will receive a new player selection in the coming days”.
At the start of the FUT birthday, EA SPORTS is therefore unlikely to feel like celebrating after three days with twice as many dropouts
