EA SPORTS has allowed itself another European Championship blunder. Eduardo Camavinga’s “Path to Glory” object was released incorrectly. The developer’s consequence: Favored FUT players are directly rewarded twice
France can in good conscience be regarded as at least a curious semi-finalist at EURO 2024. Les Bleus have not scored a single goal from play so far. Only two own goals and one penalty have been scored, taking the minimalist soccer of “General” Didier Deschamps to the extreme.
Four wins: EA gives away PlayStyle+
Eduardo Camavinga was part of the organized formation required for the French approach in the quarter-final against Portugal. While the Real Madrid midfielder performed unspectacularly and confidently on the pitch, his recently released “Path to Glory” item in FC 24 caused all the more of a stir.
At the center of the excitement was the number of PlayStyles+ with which the new FUT item was released. Four of the particularly strong traits adorned the new card right from its release. What initially appeared to be intentional among numerous other items with just as many PlayStyles+ turned out to be the third European Championship blunder after false upgrades for Camavinga’s colleagues and players of the English national team upon closer inspection of the card
According to the description, only players whose teams had already won three European Championship matches were supposed to have four PlayStyles+ at the time of release. All other items would receive the fourth PlayStyle+ as soon as the respective country fulfilled the necessary condition. However, France had only won two games before the quarter-final against Portugal (1-0 against Austria and 1-0 against Belgium). Correctly, Camavinga’s latest FUT item should therefore have been released with three PlayStyles+.
Shortly after kick-off of the match in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion, EA SPORTS also seemed to have noticed this. The developer contacted us via X and stated: “Eduardo Camavinga’s PTG item was released with an unintended number of PlayStyles+.” However, the developer would not change anything, the item “will remain as it is.”
An understandable step. After all, a correction based on the quarter-final success would have been very easy: The erroneously already included upgrade for three tournament wins could have remained in place. The upgrade of the overall rating by one point due to the quarter-final victory would have been due separately
Questionable consequences
The developer, however, saw things differently. Instead of continuing the logical upgrade path as normal, the post announced that Camavinga’s item would receive “a +1 upgrade to the overall rating” if France won the match against Portugal. As a replacement for the missing additional PlayStyle+.
And indeed: When the improvements of the professionals active on Friday evening appeared in Ultimate Team on Saturday morning, Camavinga’s object was the only “PTG” item to jump by two points in terms of overall rating. It went from an already strong 96 points to 98 points.
So it wasn’t just the disadvantaged FUT players who enjoyed too many PlayStyles+ too early. They were also given another advantage in that their item was granted an additional upgrade to the overall ranking that should not have been there. A thoroughly debatable approach, but one that is the norm at EA SPORTS.
