Farke successor found: Smith takes over at Norwich

Dean Smith (50) is the new coach of Norwich City and thus the successor of the recently sacked Daniel Farke.

He had given Norwich their first win of the season at fellow promoted Brentford (2-1), but Daniel Farke was sacked immediately afterwards anyway.

Now the Canaries have presented Dean Smith as his successor. The 50-year-old from West Bromwich, who will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract, was, like Farke, suspended after the last matchday, and has since been replaced by Steven Gerrard at ambitious Aston Villa.

For Smith, who had already coached Brentford and Walsall before Villa, it will be a matter of making the difficult mission of staying in the league possible. Despite their first win of the season, Norwich are level on points with Newcastle at the bottom of the table and have been clearly outclassed on a number of occasions this season, including a 7-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Smith’s tenure begins next Saturday with a home game against Southampton.
