Ana Carrasco is about to make her comeback in the Moto3 World Championship: saying goodbye to the World Superbike paddock is hard for the former 300cc World Champion
Ana Carrasco returns to the Moto3 World Championship. The former Supersport 300 World Champion has reached an agreement with the Boe-SKX team and will pilot a KTM. Carrasco already rode in the Moto3 World Championship from 2013 to 2015 with manageable success. The Spaniard caused a sensation in the Supersport 300 World Championship.
In the 2017 season, Carrasco made her debut in the production-based championship, which is held as part of the World Superbike Championship. Carrasco made history by winning the title in the 2018 season.
She crowned herself the first woman to win an FIM-announced road world championship. In 50 race appearances, she made it to the podium twelve times, taking seven wins and three pole positions.
Carrasco did not appear on the entry list for the 2022 Supersport 300 World Championship. Moving up to the Supersport World Championship was an issue. Most recently, she tested a 600cc Kawasaki in Jerez. But eventually managed to secure a contract in the Moto3 World Championship.
Saying goodbye to the WSBK paddock and Kawasaki is not easy for Carrasco. “Racing is hard, not only on the track where people notice it. It’s also hard in the moments when you have to make difficult decisions,” she commented.
“I always aim to develop as a rider, to set myself new goals that others consider unrealistic and then achieve them,” she says of her motivation. “This opportunity in Moto3 is the logical step, even if it is emotionally difficult. I want to thank everyone at Kawasaki. I felt part of their racing family.”
Kawasaki Team Manager Guim Roda regrets that Ana Carrasco will no longer ride for Kawasaki: “Ana’s move to Moto3 is the end of the journey we started together in 2018. We are proud to be a part of history. The Kawasaki Ninja will forever be remembered as the bike a woman won an FIM championship on. “
