The Republic of Ireland’s national football team has a new home kit. It features a white V-neck, an orange trim and pays homage to the historic 1990 side, which reached the World Cup quarter-finals in its first-ever appearance.
Officially, this kit was released for the 2018/19 season. The new jerseys should make their debut on 13th October, when Ireland face old for Denmark in UEFA’s brand new invention – the Nations League. The previous jersey, released in 2017, was worn only five times by the national side so far.
Seámus Coleman, Jeff Hendrick, James McClean, Shane Duffy and Alan Browne were the players kit designer New Balance chose to present the new strip to the public. Fans were not overjoyed with the design, nor with the fact that a new kit was launched so soon after the previous one.
“Awful looking, glorified €80 training shirt with an awful looking sponsor.”

Meanwhile, this was New Balance’s official statement:
“The 2018/19 home kit incorporates a Green design with a vibrant Orange trim. The shirt features a V-neck collar and pays homage to Jack Charlton’s historic Italia ‘90 side – who reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup at their first time of qualifying. The jersey also features Éire written across the back of the shirt in modern tonal graphics with a Pristweld crest.
Republic of Ireland upcoming schedule
Before the new home kit makes its bow, Republic of Ireland has two games to play. First, The Mean Green take on Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday in their Nations League opener and then have a friendly with Poland on Thursday.
Arter out, Walters and Declan Rice in for Martin O’Neill
Martin O’Neill won’t be able to count on the services of experienced midfielder Harry Arter, who was involved in a row with assistant manager Roy Keane back in June. Arter himself asked to be removed from the squad and opted to focus on his stagnating playing career, at least for the time being.
“His club career has stalled somewhat at this moment…”
“His club appearances have been few and far between just recently and he wants to concentrate on that there.”
“If he clears his mind and he’s happy enough to come back and all issues have to be resolved.”
Jon Walters, who was involved in the disagreement as well, will be available. O’Neill also claims all reports of a possible dispute between Declan Rice and Roy Keane are completely false.
