After it was leaked over the weekend that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United again, the next fuss followed on Monday: the Portuguese misses his return to team training.
According to media reports, the Portuguese attacker is staying away from training for “family reasons”. The club had accepted this.
Over the weekend, numerous media outlets had reported on Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to move. The 37-year-old had only returned to Manchester United last summer, but after 38 games (24 goals), only sixth place in the league and missing out on the Champions League, the Portuguese is said to have had enough of the English record champions again.
While new coach Erik ten Hag had already led his first session on Monday last week, the players who were still away with their national teams were not expected to arrive until today. Among them are Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes – and Ronaldo.
On Friday, the Red Devils leave for a two-and-a-half-week preparation tour to Thailand, which includes a test match against Liverpool FC on 12 July. It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will be back in action there.
