Considering Facebook are having a bad year, they really don’t seem to be suffering too much. The social media platform has become so much more than a vehicle for online friendship communications; it has become a shopping app, somewhere you can find local businesses and more recently, a place you can watch live sports.

Facebook to show La Liga games in India
Facebook has been showing Major League Baseball to US users and now they have pulled off another major sports deal coup. They have agreed on an exclusive deal that will enable them to show every La Liga game in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Facebook is able to make money with the targeted advertising that they use in streaming of the sports. The deal follows a trend for more sports events moving over to online streaming as opposed to TV broadcasting.
Online streaming of sports is becoming more popular
As of next season, Premier League football will have 20 games that can be watched online rather than through a TV channel. Amazon Prime will be offering those games to their subscribers.
The future landscape of watching live sports is changing as technology develops and there are more alternatives to Sky Sports and other satellite and cable providers. Netflix has seen a huge demand for streaming online content for box sets and films and sports are now going the same way.
eSports is another huge phenomenon
eSports is another phenomenon that is showing major interest in terms of viewers wanting to watch professional gamers do their thing. Amazon’s Twitch is ahead of the game there, tapping into the lucrative industry that emerged over the last few years.
