Sebastien Loeb and Cristina Gutierrez aim for the championship title in Extreme E 2022 – Alongside the World Rally Raid Championship, Loeb’s second complete race series is set
Sebastien Loeb and Cristina Gutierrez will continue to compete for Team X44 in the second season of Extreme E. It is the racing team of Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton. For Loeb/Gutierrez there is only one goal. They want to win the championship in their second season.
In the premiere year of the electric racing series with SUV, Loeb/Gutierrez won the season finale, the Jurassic X-Prix in Great Britain. However, it was only enough for second place in the championship behind Johan Kristoffersson and Molly Taylor (Rosberg X Racing).
“Last year was a big challenge for us,” says Loeb. “We had a lot of problems with the car and also some bad luck, but we were up front in qualifying in every race. “
“We ended the year with a win and tied on points in the championship. So we are optimistic! I think the other teams are very strong, but Cristina and I have shown that we know how to win races on the toughest tracks in the world.”
“So we will give everything to achieve more podium finishes. Our fans have been very supportive since our first race and I hope we can repay them with a championship win in 2022. “
With that, Loeb’s schedule is getting busier. Extreme E is planning five events for the season. In addition, the Frenchman will also contest the new World Rally Raid Championship with Prodrive. There, four more rallies are scheduled after the Dakar.
There are no overlapping dates between the Extreme E and the World Rally Raid Championship. In addition, Loeb wants to drive a few more WRC rounds after his victory at the Rally Monte-Carlo. On the entry list for the Rally Sweden, Loeb is missing.
Purely theoretically, he would have quite a wide choice of WRC rallies. Only the Acropolis Rally in Greece takes place on the same weekend as the Extreme E in Chile. The season opener of the 2022 Extreme E season will take place on 20 February in Saudi Arabia.
