Virgil van Dijk recently made the transition from Southampton to Liverpool for 84.5 million euros, making the Orange-international the most expensive defender ever. The defenders of the Reds may see the Dutchman’s arrival as a threat, but Joe Gomez says that Van Dijk’s transfer is an important move for the Merseyside club.
“For me personally, it’s someone I can learn a lot from,”says the 20-year-old defender at Liverpool club site,”he’s an experienced defender with a lot of quality. It is another person by whom I can develop further and from whom I can learn a lot. The same applies to Joël Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and the others. It’s nice that others are trying to make you better.
“And for the club, the arrival of Van Dijk is also gigantic,”continues the young man,”it shows the status of the club and the trust that the manager (Jürgen Klopp, ed.) enjoys. That players want to come to Liverpool and play for him. Everyone has that feeling here. It gives you confidence that you are entering the field and think: we have a difficult task for us. But that you will then have Van Dijk.
Virgil van Dijk is a welcome reinforcement for Liverpool.
