Expensive and highly coveted: Olise is said to prefer Bayern

FC Bayern is also looking to strengthen its wings for the coming season. One hot candidate is said to be Michael Olise from Crystal Palace

The Athletic reports that Michael Olise has decided to move to FC Bayern. According to the report, the Munich club have already made contact with Crystal Palace regarding a possible transfer, but a deal has not yet been finalized.

The 22-year-old Frenchman has recently been linked with numerous clubs, including Chelsea FC, but Newcastle United and the two Manchester clubs United and City are also said to have been interested.

Until recently, Chelsea FC seemed to have the best cards, but the overall financial package does not seem feasible for the Blues. Olise is said to have been close to a move to Stamford Bridge a year ago, but the winger changed his mind and signed a four-year extension at Crystal Palace instead.

High release clause

Not only did his new contract make him one of the London club’s highest earners, it is also said to include an estimated €70 million buy-out clause. This means that Palace’s hands would be tied if Bayern were to make use of this clause. There has been no official confirmation so far

The 22-year-old left-footer arrived at Selhurst Park from Reading FC in 2021 and already has 82 Premier League appearances, 14 goals and numerous assists to his name. He improved enormously under coach Oliver Glasner last season. After missing 18 games due to a tricky thigh injury, the left-footer shone on his return with ten goals in 19 games – quite impressive for a winger.

Olise was called up to the provisional squad for the Summer Olympics in Paris (July 24 to August 9, 2024) by France’s U-21 national team coach Thierry Henry. Should he take part, he would join Bayern after a delay.
