Ex-NBA pro White loses election to enter US Senate

Former NBA player Royce White was defeated in the US elections in the fight to enter the Senate. The ex-pro was running for the Republicans.

Royce White was denied a long NBA career. Between 2012 and 2014, the power forward was briefly under contract with the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings. With the latter, he earned three short appearances. However, the former first-round pick mainly made headlines because he refused to fly to away games. He also advocated for better management of mental illness.

The American made a steeper career in his home state of Minnesota as a politician. Through his ties to Donald Trump’s former adviser Steve Bannon, he quickly rose to prominence in the Republican Party in 2021.

In the 2022 House of Representatives elections, he was still defeated by a competitor in the preliminary committee. However, he was the top candidate in the Senate elections on the fringes of the 2024 presidential election.

However, he was clearly defeated by incumbent Senator Amy Klobuchar. The Democrat received 56.3 percent of the vote, while White received 40.5 percent.
