Eventful two weeks: Oxford extends contract at Augsburg

FC Augsburg have extended the contract of defensive player Reece Oxford by two years ahead of schedule.

First he discovered his scoring threat, now he signed his contract: After scoring three goals in his last four competitive games, Reece Oxford has committed himself to FC Augsburg on a long-term basis. The club announced on Thursday that FCA had extended the Englishman’s contract, which originally ran until 2023, by two years until 2025.

The plans were apparently already in place a few months before Oxford’s flood of goals. They had “already started talks about a contract extension with him after the end of last season”, managing director Stefan Reuter is quoted as saying in the club’s statement. “Reece has developed into an absolute performer for us. Not only is he very important for our game defensively, but he is also enormously dangerous offensively on standards. “

Oxford, who had already played on loan for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 2017/18 season, joined FCA in January 2019 – also initially on loan – from West Ham United. The Fuggerstädter finally signed the defender permanently the following summer. Oxford had to wait a long time for a goal afterwards, until things went ketchup-bottle within two weeks: After his goal debut in the 1-1 draw against Bielefeld in mid-October, the 22-year-old also scored in the cup elimination in Bochum and most recently in the 4-1 win against Stuttgart.
