German tennis player Eva Lys has made hate comments against herself public on social media following her semi-final exit at the Cluj-Napoca tournament.
The 21-year-old posted numerous screenshots of insulting and derogatory comments and messages on Instagram. “Reality of a tennis player. Insults are never okay,” Lys wrote in response.
Earlier, Lys lost the German duel with Tamara Korpatsch in two sets 4:6, 3:6. She kept up for a long time in the opening set of her first WTA semifinal, but then deservedly lost in 1:22 hours. In another Instagram story, the tennis player thanked the spectators in Romania for their support. “Despite the defeat, the atmosphere was incredible. See you next time,” she wrote.
Hate comments on social media are no exception for many tennis professionals. At the French Open this year, the French federation had launched an initiative to protect players from insults on social media with technical help. In the process, a technological solution was to ensure that the pros could have their content moderated on Instagram, Twitter & Co.
