European Tour: South Africa’s Thomas Aiken Loses Play-off to England’s Paul Waring at Nordea Masters

The Nordea Masters went down to the wire with Waring and Aiken both finishing 14 under par in a hotly contest four rounds. They both hit 68 in the final round and then in the play-off Aiken crumbled under pressure and saw his ball land in the water, leaving Waring to pick up the top prize.

Aiken wins big in the prize money

Aiken still took R2.7m for his impressive performance but the difference between 1st and 2nd is considerable. The prize money in Euros is:

1st Waring – €250,000

2nd Aiken – €166,660

3rd Kieffer – €93,900

4th Olesen – €75,000

So that was one very expensive wayward tee shot for Aiken! However, he will still be very happy with the result at the Nordea Masters, as he is currently 277th in the Official World Golf Rankings. It was his best finish since 2014 where he won the Africa Open and the last few years have been disappointing for him, as he has fallen down the rankings.

Olesen finished fourth to boost Ryder Cup selection chances

Thorbjorn Olesen has improved his chances of making the Ryder Cup team with his steady performance that finished at 12 under par, to place him fourth. That result takes him into an automatic qualifying position and he finished the round in style with two birdies. He seems to have hit form at just the right time, with a win in the Italian Open in June and will now go to the Made in Denmark tournament looking to ensure his place in the team.
