European Championship 2025: DBB in qualification against Montenegro, Bulgaria and Sweden

The draw for the qualifiers for the 2025 European Championships has given the German basketball players feasible opponents in Munich on Tuesday.

European Championship bronze medallists Germany will face Montenegro, Bulgaria and Sweden, against whom they recently recorded an 87-68 test match victory, in Group D of the qualifiers for EuroBasket 2025.

On paper, the DBB team led by captain Dennis Schröder of the Toronto Raptors is favoured in this group as 2022 bronze winners. The team of national coach Gordon Herbert had been victorious against the Montenegrins, currently number 18 in the world, at the European Championships at home in the last 16 (85:79).

Four nations to host the European Championship

The qualifiers will be played in three international match windows (19-27 February 2024, 18-26 November 2024, 17-25 February 2025). The three best-placed teams from each of the eight groups will get a ticket. The exceptions are the relays with the co-hosts Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia. Here, the host and the two other best-placed teams qualify. The European Championship will take place from 27 August to 14 September 2025.
