There is a busy calendar of fixtures ahead for Eddie Jones’ England team in the next year and at this week’s three-day training camp, Jones has outlined his expectations. In an interview, he stated:
“It’s about being English, not being a copy of other teams. You’ve got New Zealand there which is the benchmark of international rugby and what everyone tries to do is copy that. You can’t copy something, you’ve got to come up with your own way of doing it and particularly for us it’s important that we keep being an English team.”

Jones wants a team to keep their English identity
Jones clearly feels that some teams have been trying to imitate New Zealand set up, rather than staying true to their roots and their own style. As England look ahead to a set of fixtures that include matches against South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, and Australia in November, Jones will be looking for his players to use England’s unique identity to give them the advantage over their competitors.
The England Head Coach was quick to point out that his team will continue to evolve in terms of their playing style and overall approach but that they should do this whilst staying true to their English roots.

John Mitchell appointed new defense coach
The England team’s evolution is evidenced by the recent appointment of John Mitchell as the new defense coach. Mitchell is a very experienced coach that has worked in Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand and Jones are very excited about the attributes that Mitchell brings to the England coaching set-up.
