The Oklahoma City Thunder rising star and one of the best Turkish basketball players, Enes Kanter, has informed the public that he will change his last name to GULEN !!!
According to the letter Kanter published earlier this week, the reason for his action is the fact that his father and the rest of his family have publicly stated that they no longer consider Enes a part of their family. The reason for this statement is the growing support of Enes Kanter for the religious figure Fethullah Gulen.
In the letter he wrote and published online, Kanter said that he has lost his father, mother his brother and the rest of his family because they are not accepting his support to a man (Gulen) that has been accused of organizing and starting a military coup that happened back in July on the streets of Turkey.
Kanter believes that Fethullah Gulen is the true leader of the Turkish population and that everyone should follow his movement – HIZMET !!! Hizmet is a movement that runs schools and the educational system in Turkey and many more other countries. The same movement was declared as a terroristic movement by the Turkish Government in May of 2016.
Kanters father, Mehmet Kanter, has stated that he has warned his son to stop tweeting posts in which he criticized the Turkish President Tayip Recep Erdogan. With no option in mind, Mehmet said that his family had no choice but disown him and to cut ties with Enes. According to some insider information, the Father of Enes Kanter reportedly involved Enes to the movement while at the young age.
Enes, who was born back in 1992, was born in Switzerland. Due to many implications throughout his senior year of high school and his college year at the University of Kentucky, Kanter had to sit out for one year before he was finaly drafted as the third overall draft pick at the 2011 NBA draft pick.
How deep his problem and the support for Gullen is, best shows the fact that the Turkish National Basketball association has waived Kanter from the final roster for the European Champion ship.
Last year Kanter has recorded very respectable numbers scoring 12.7 ppg and 8.1 rpg in only 21.0 minutes of action.
This is a very shocking and at the same time a very said story, because if the fact that the politics are starting to rip apart the entire families.
